EDITION THEME
Economía Creativa 22: Creativity in Context
Expressions of creativity are as diverse as the individuals and communities that produce them, shaped by unique temporal and spatial contexts. As we engage in art, design, and media practices, we both continue established lineages and seek to innovate, occasionally challenging tradition. Therefore, how we approach - or even define- creativity as it can vary from place to place, person to person, or even community to community.
OCAD University and Centro are excited to announce the compilation of an academic journal that delves into these nuances of creativity in context, aiming to highlight similarities, differences, and the boundless possibilities that emerge when diverse perspectives and experiences converge. This publication will serve as a celebration of the distinctiveness of our creative communities while fostering dialogue and exchange between them.
Economia Creativa is a semi-annual journal disseminating new knowledge related to the field of Creative Economies, Social Innovation, Prospective and Creative Technology published by Centro, an institution of higher education in Mexico City. OCAD University has been invited to collaborate on issue 22 for the first 2025 semester.
We invite contributions from OCAD U staff, students, alumni, and faculty to share examples of research and/or practice that illuminate creativity within particular or varying contexts. Submissions may include academic papers exploring site or location specific work, specialized industry partnerships, collaborative international initiatives, or reflections on creativity within particular frameworks.
Potential topics for submission include, but are not limited to:
- Case studies of creative projects rooted in specific geographical or cultural contexts,
- Analyses of the role of tradition and innovation in creative practices,
- Explorations of the intersection between creativity and socio-political contexts,
- Examinations of creative collaborative efforts across diverse communities or industries,
- Reflections on the cultural, economic, and environmental implications of creative endeavours,
We encourage interdisciplinary approaches and welcome submissions from individuals across various fields and disciplines. By bringing together a diverse array of voices and perspectives, we aim to enrich our understanding of creativity and its manifestations in our ever-evolving world.
Applications are being requested for original and unpublished content to be included in either the Peer-Reviewed Section (Research articles, case studies, reports, and review articles) or the Non-Peer-Reviewed Section (Reviews of books, essays, work or articles of dissemination, curriculum examples, creative writing). The applications for peer-reviewed content received will go to an anonymous arbitration process between peers to double-blind peer review. Applications for the non-peer reviewed section will be curated by the co-editors in relation to the issue’s theme.
