The Faculty & Curriculum Development Centre (FCDC) supports the development and implementation of OCAD University’s Academic Plan and enhances teaching and learning at the university through programs, initiatives and resources that foster pedagogical reflection, strengthen educational quality, guide educational change, and support student success in art and design education. We work with faculty, academic leadership and other members of the university, scholarly and local communities to facilitate faculty professional learning and teaching development, curriculum development and renewal, resource development to support teaching and learning, and educational research. We advance inclusive teaching practices and support the development of critical and transformative pedagogies that remove barriers to learning and enhance access to education for all students.
Scholarly and Critical Approaches
We engage in the creation and sharing of educational research and knowledges that foster scholarly and critical engagement with teaching and learning in art and design education.
Art and Design Education
We recognize the pedagogical specificity of art and design education and the centrality of materiality, process, peer learning and critique to studio-based learning. We foster the exploration of pedagogies and curriculum that recognize the unique role of art and design in developing and communicating complex conceptual, theoretical and critical worldviews.
