The FCDC supports and facilitates the development of program and course curricula. Our work is informed by advancements in teaching and learning research, faculty and staff expertise, and the diverse needs of OCAD U’s student body. We work with Faculties, program areas and individual faculty to develop, assess, and refine courses and curricula.

We provide support by:

  • Developing and assessing the alignment of learning outcomes, assignments and teaching at the program and course level;
  • Facilitating program development and renewal through curriculum mapping; and
  • Collaborating with faculty on institutional quality assurance initiatives, including cyclical program review, student feedback on courses and new and revised course proposals.

Course Design and Delivery Support

Our Centre provides facilitated course development and pedagogical support to help faculty create student-centred courses tailored to the specific needs of their disciplines. We offer training, consultations and resources on designing and delivering accessible, inclusive and engaging courses across all modes of delivery.

Modes of Course Delivery

OCAD U offers courses in five modes of delivery:

In-Person Courses

In-person courses are delivered fully in person at a weekly scheduled time. Students attend classes together on campus or at an OCAD U partner site.

Blended Courses

Blended courses integrate a combination of in-person and online learning. Students attend some scheduled classes on campus and the other classes online. Typically, 25 to 75% of the course is delivered online through synchronous (real-time) or asynchronous (self-directed) learning activities.

Online Synchronous Courses

Online synchronous courses are delivered fully online at a weekly scheduled time. Students attend classes and engage in real-time course activities with the instructor using video conferencing, the learning management system (Canvas) or other digital platforms.

Online Asynchronous Courses

Online asynchronous courses are delivered fully online with no scheduled class time. Students determine when they engage with the course content and activities in alignment with an overall course schedule specified by the instructor.

Flexible Courses

Flexible courses offer both in-person and online learning options. Students have the flexibility to participate in course activities in person on campus, or online through synchronous (real-time) or asynchronous (self-directed) learning activities determined by the instructor.
