At OCAD U, we encourage consideration of a material’s whole lifecycle: Where does it come from and where does it go? As described by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 80% of a product’s environmental impact occurs at the design stage. We encourage OCAD U students, faculty and staff to maximize a product's lifecycle and improve material flows by design, such as in curriculum and purchasing decisions. Examples of this are spare pieces of wood or old canvasses.

The ReUse Depot is both a physical space and an important opportunity for artists and designers to up-cycle, re-purpose or reuse materials that can inspire, explore creativity, or reduce students’ financial burden while redirecting the material from landfill.

Students and community members give a little and take a little, donating usable art and design supplies and taking donated items they know they’ll use.

There are several self-service areas throughout our main campus building at 100 McCaul St. where students will find a variety of materials and supplies.

Community donations can be received at 100 McCaul on the main floor at the Store/Tool Loans during their open hours. We are always looking for supplies such as clean brushes, drawing utensils, paints (labelled and sealed), magazines, and clean containers.
