Preparing to Graduate

OCAD University has three graduation periods - September, January and May. All students approved to graduate are invited to participate in OCAD U's formal convocation ceremony, held annually in June.

If you anticipate you'll be ready to graduate during one of OCAD University's three graduation periods, you'll need to submit an Intent to Graduate form through Self-Service ('My Academics' > 'Graduation') by the applicable deadline. For complete details, visit our help article.

Convocation Ceremonies

OCAD University hosts one convocation date annually. Two ceremonies are held, and each graduand will be invited to the ceremony for their program.

Please note: OCAD University may document convocation through photography, video, film, webcast or broadcast, and may use these for promotional, advertising or educational purposes. By participating in convocation, you consent to allowing OCAD University to use your image and likeness.

Students preparing to graduate should read our help article for more information on convocation.

Ceremony & Reception for Indigenous Graduates

Indigenous OCAD U graduates have the option of receiving a gift from Elder Liz Osawamick on stage during the convocation ceremony.

Traditional Regalia

OCAD University respects the wishes of Indigenous graduands and faculty who choose to wear traditional regalia to a convocation ceremony. All First Nations, Inuit and Métis graduands are welcome to wear traditional regalia in place of an academic gown and do not have to rent a gown or pay the rental fee for the gown. This has been included in OCAD U's convocation policies.

Graduation Portraits

OCAD University's vendor of record for graduation portraits is New Paramount Studios. Photography sessions are available on campus each spring, or you can book a session at the studio location(s). Learn more about getting your graduation portraits in our help article
