We are Canada's most inspiring campus!

We're located in downtown Toronto, next to Grange Park and the Art Gallery of Ontario and steps away from one the world’s coolest streets, Queen West and the Entertainment District. Our growing footprint includes 12 buildings in the heart of the city. We have over 20 shops and studios, six public galleries, and run a digital production house with a street-front studio located in the TIFF Lightbox. Our campus is easily accessible by transit and surrounded by walkable and livable neighbourhoods.

Toronto is an amazing place to live, work and study. It’s one of the five largest cities in North America and the most multicultural city in the world. Toronto is Canada's cultural hub, with major museums, galleries and a thriving arts community. It’s home to TIFF, massive festivals and design industries, and it's a hub for tech startups. We're a safe city and consistently rank as one of the world's best cities to live in.

Rosalie Sharp Centre for Design

Our main building is a real head-turner. Now a Toronto architectural landmark, the iconic Rosalie Sharp Centre for Design opened in 2004 as part of a major $42.5-million campus redevelopment. Winner of the Royal Institute of British Architects Worldwide Award, this black and white “tabletop” structure stands above our main campus building on 12 colourful steel legs. It was designed by acclaimed British architect Will Alsop in partnership with Toronto-based Robbie/Young + Wright Architects and is named after longtime benefactors Rosalie and Isadore Sharp. Our playful checkerboard in the sky not only sparked Toronto's architectural boom, but still feels fresh and inspiring today.

Waterfront campus

Expanding our footprint to another part of downtown Toronto, we opened our state-of-the-art Waterfront Campus at 130 Queens Quay East in 2018. We have over 14,000 square feet of open work and training spaces that feature movable walls to create extra space. From small studios for hands-on projects, to modular furniture that can be moved around as needed, our Waterfront Campus provides flexible spaces designed to compliment the free flow of ideas. This campus houses OCAD U CO, our futures design studio for industry and business, and our Strategic Foresight and Innovation Master of Design program.

OCAD U strives to create an inclusive campus.

One of the ways we do this is with inclusive washrooms. At OCAD U, we prioritize the safety and comfort of transgender and gender diverse people in gender segregated spaces.

  • We recognize that gender identity and expression are self-determined, and that this is the only criterion required to determine which washroom to use.
  • Our all gender washrooms aspire to be safer spaces where anyone — regardless of gender identity or expression — can use the toilet, wash their hands and check the mirror.
  • Our washrooms include signage that indicate that the space is inclusive, and that we respect everyone’s right to choose the washroom that is appropriate for them.
  • Our safety and security team understands that when a complaint is being made about someone using the “wrong” washroom, it’s often the person being reported who needs protection.
  • We recognize that we need more multi-stall all gender washrooms across the campus. When opportunities to redevelop our spaces arise, we consider this, along with the need for additional universal washrooms that address accessibility, personal care support, and the needs of people with young children.
