Steve Choi (BFA, Drawing & Painting, 2014)
I chose to attend OCAD University because I really like the atmosphere around its innovated space where I am dedicated to take my studies to the next
My fondest memory of my time in university would be a time when I drew my interpretation of a young ladybug for the CBC 75th anniversary commercial on television about how they saw me in the commercial on television and online. I believe it had a positive impact on my reputation as an OCAD student. Another fond memory I had was getting involved in a silent art auction and watching music and dance performance by OCAD students and alumni.
What I learned at OCAD U and still use today is that I should draw and paint based on my feelings and thoughts depending on my activities I was involved in. What I draw or paint could be abstract or representational.
Today, I am currently working as an administrative assistant at Candy Owners Group as my day job. I work 40 hours a week from Monday-Friday. I’ve been making some paintings in my spare time. I got involved in some small art shows and managed to sell some works, for which I made small income. I have been struggling to find and get into some art shows regardless of size.
In terms of advice for current students, all I have is study hard, make use of everything the university is providing, and enjoy whatever time you have as a university student.
