Marie (Jet) Maitland (AOCA, Design, 1988)

I was accepted into OCA at age 44, An immigrant from the Netherlands to Toronto.

My fondest memory is travelling with Ted Mallman: Japan – Paris- Como.

What I learned at OCA and still use today is to look critically at the world and to make creative use of colours, thanks to Renate.

My artistic practice has been diverse and from multimedia design with textiles I moved on to figurative sculpting.  I have a studio in Amsterdam, where I continue to work at age 80.

My advice for current students is…

Behave and dress as a professional wherever you are.

Travel!
