Edward Turvey (BDES, Environmental Design, 2012) & (AOCA, Fine Art, 1974)
Visual ambition brought me to THE ONTARIO COLLEGE OF ART in 1969.
The early 1970's thrust the Cybernetic Ascot years upon us: no courses and teachers. It became a time of self reliance. All shops were open to all for learning & discovery.
It was a time of visual growth with people such as J Cridland, D Hall-Humpherson, J Burt, M Oliver and M MacRae to name a few. It was a time of metal work with Angelo Di Petta to generate his extruded clay forms. It was a time of study & work with sculptor Robert Downing as a student & studio assistant. It was a time of animation work with Jim Morison. It was the rich time of youth.
My AOCA 1974 hands-on education led to a career in sales, marketing, entrepreneurial ventures, the visual arts, and education before a window of opportunity brought me to OCADU in 2010 to do that which was not there the first time: academic learning.
It was a time focused on learning the craft of writing & expressing well versed arguments. It was an energizing time with old ideas swept away by new. It was a moment of fabulous class interaction with the younger minds of students and teachers.
Now in 2020, I continue to contribute to the dynamic growth of Monarch Custom Plywood Inc. following the receipt of my BDes from OCAD University in 2012.
My advice for current students is WORK LEARN THRIVE ENJOY at whatever you do.
