Exhibition Description
Friday, August 11th marked the final class of English for Art & Design (EAD): Bridge to First Year, OCAD U’s six-week intensive pathway program for English Language Learner and multilingual students entering their first year at OCAD U.
EAD: Bridge To First Year gives students the opportunity to further develop and practice their English language skills in the context of art and design, before taking their first for-credit courses in the Fall. The program is offered by the English for Art & Design (EAD) Program.
The final exhibition celebrates and showcases the 2023 student cohort's hard work, diverse talents and skills. The pieces in this online show represent a culmination of students' ongoing development of their creative and language abilities.
During the program, students were asked to consider the context in which they are making art & design and to consider influences such as cultural and world events, personal stories, the spaces they inhabit, and innovations that have shaped their lives. Over our time together, many different themes emerged including the connection we feel to our physical places and objects, concerns about the environment, memories of childhood, and a predominant interest in emergent technologies and how they impact our lives and self-image. Who we are in this endless feedback loop of technology led us to the title Mirror/Mirror.
The exhibition is presented via Adobe Express and will be accessible online from 12pm (EDT) on Friday, August 11, 2023.
