Nicole Collins Presents:

Material Abundance and the Sustainable Colour Lab

In this sabbatical presentation I will talk about a transformative year of material research and travel that culminated in the launch this fall, of the OCADU Sustainable Colour Lab, a space and community for artists and designers to conduct and disseminate sustainable material colour research. Motivated by the climate crisis, my current studio research focusses on paintings made from foraged and abundant, local and sustainable colour sources including black walnut and rust, modest and often over-looked. From T’karonto to Tokyo to Manitoulin Island to Cambridge Massachusetts, from online communities to in-person interdisciplinary collaborations, I will share images and stories of the people, materials, processes, and artworks that continue to emerge.

Luke Painter Presents:

Samuel James Painter

This project is the beginning of a graphic novel based on my father’s life and his complicated relationship with masculinity.  It explores significant moments in his life and how trauma, intimacy and fantasy have defined his actions and relationships.  The intent of the project is to give an individual, personal, nuanced and reflective account of masculinity and its effects.  This presentation will show early visualizations of the work and research into relevant graphic novels and storytelling strategies.
