About the Role: 

Ignite Gallery is seeking a dedicated Student Monitor to join our team. This position is ideal for current OCAD University international students registered with the Campus Employment Program for International Students (CEPIS) or the Institutional Work Study Plan (IWSP). 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Exhibition Support: Assist with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions, including tasks such as working on ladders, light lifting, moving objects, installing hanging vinyl, and using power tools for hanging art and performing maintenance tasks like patching and painting walls. 

  • Visitor Interaction: Greet and inform visitors about current and upcoming exhibitions, public events, and general gallery and OCAD U information. 

  • Gallery Supervision: Oversee the gallery entrance and exhibition areas to enhance the visitor experience, encourage engagement, and enforce gallery rules. 

  • Maintenance and Cleanliness: Ensure all exhibition elements are in working order, and that the front reception and gallery areas are clean and tidy. Identify and address any maintenance needs for artworks. 

  • Opening and Closing Duties: Manage opening and closing procedures, including operating exhibition works, maintaining front reception cleanliness, and securing the gallery. 

  • Meetings: Attend orientation and other meetings as scheduled by the Programs & Community Coordinator or Curator. 

  • Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned by the Programs & Community Coordinator and senior management.

Qualifications/Skills: 

Requirements: 

  • Enrolled as an OCAD University student eligible for CEPIS or IWSP. 

  • Genuine interest in contemporary art and design. 

  • Comfortable working with tools, measuring tape, and ladders. 

  • Experience with painting and basic maintenance tasks. 

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 


Assets: 

  • Experience with audio/visual and office equipment. 

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram) for assisting with digital presence and promotion.
