of mulberry foam and blood
IAMD Thesis Exhibition by Raquel Mendes
“of mulberry foam and blood” is a work of performance and installation envisioned as a ritual of connection between humanity and the sacred entity of nature through a cyclical process of soiling and cleansing. Following an exploration of feminist discourse surrounding human connection to nature, non-denominational spirituality, and autoethnographic research pertaining to patriarchal oppression in Brazilian culture, the artist creates a multi-faceted metaphor in which life and death are conceived as a continuum to be integrated in everyday life.
