Stories We Tell: Mythologies

Presented by OCAD University’s International Programs & Collaboration Office

From April 15 to 20, 2025, join us at Toronto’s Stackt Market – North Hall Gallery for a compelling exhibition that bridges continents and imaginations. Stories We Tell: Mythologies is a collaborative zine exhibition featuring artists from OCAD University (Canada), Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo (Brazil), and RMIT Melbourne (Australia). Together, these emerging artists explore how myth continues to shape—and be shaped by—our modern world.

Rooted in storytelling traditions and inspired by theorist Roland Barthes’ concept of myth as a system of communication, this exhibition reimagines mythology as a living, breathing framework that evolves across time, media, and culture. Far from static tales of the past, the myths explored in this zine become tools for understanding contemporary identity, transformation, and power.

Contributors examine the role of myth in today’s visual culture and personal narratives—whether by reinterpreting classical figures, crafting entirely new mythologies, or addressing urgent social and political themes. The result is a vibrant, cross-cultural dialogue that reveals how myths travel, transform, and speak to generations across the globe.
