Celebrating the work of our iArts Artist-in-Residence, Sandeep TK, for the opening reception of his exhibition in Ada Slaight, followed by an artist talk:

Friday, October 25, 2024
  • 4 to 5:30 pm Opening Reception at Ada Slaight Gallery
  • 7 to 8 pm Artist Talk at MCA 230

Exhibition on view: October 22 to November 4

Exploring his caste, class, and queer identity through photography and moving images, Sandeep TK presents the personal as political in a confident, playful way. Radiating a raw emotional vulnerability, the artist’s work draws attention to his world and his experiences—from what it meant to grow up as a queer person in a small town in Kerala, to living as an artist in a city. He considers much of his work as ongoing, necessitating a process of revision and reflection on who he is as an artist and as a person by critically examining his surroundings. Sandeep often involves himself in his photographs.

The IArts Residency Program is a bi-yearly, six-week artist in residence program for an emerging artist or designer from India. While in Toronto, the resident will make artwork in an OCAD University studio, interact with students and faculty, and build relationships by connecting with broader Canadian artistic communities. With access to OCAD University's full range of facilities, the IArts Resident will have the opportunity to work with materials, methods or media that expand their practice. The IArts Resident will also have opportunities to share their work and ideas with OCAD U students and faculty, as well as the general public. The IArts Residency provides a vehicle for exploring common ground, sharing old and new traditions, exploring contemporary creative processes and building new ideas through collaborative experiences.
Since September 2024, OCAD U has been hosting Sandeep TK as our second IArts artist-in-residence. Sandeep TK was selected by OCAD U's IArts Advisory Committee based on his record of artistic accomplishment, experience, and alignment with the guiding principles of OCAD U's Academic and Research plans.
Please come and celebrate Sandeep and the iArts Program on Friday, October 25.
