We’re excited to announce a two-day collaborative workshop between Digital Futures and Experimental Animation. This event will introduce artists to Autolume, a groundbreaking tool for personalized, generative AI art creation. The workshop will take place on October 23rd and 24th, with each session running for 3 hours.

What is Autolume?

Autolume is a no-code, user-friendly visual synthesizer that harnesses the artistic potential of GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks). It simplifies complex processes such as dataset preparation, model training, and real-time art generation, making it perfect for artists who want to explore generative AI without needing technical skills.

This innovative tool empowers artists to train models on their own personal datasets, allowing for more creative control and bypassing the biases of large pre-trained models. With Autolume, artists can dive into unique, interactive art generation that breaks away from mainstream approaches.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is open to artists from all visual disciplines and technical backgrounds, whether you're new to generative AI or looking to enhance your skills in personalized, interactive workflows. Participants are encouraged to bring their own image or video datasets (minimum of 50-100 images or a 5-minute video) to train on Autolume, allowing for hands-on experimentation and customized results.

Workshop Breakdown:

Day 1:

  • Introduction to Autolume and system demo
  • Step-by-step guidance on using personal datasets to train generative models
  • A focus on ease of use, accessibility, and creative control

Day 2:

  • Review of training outcomes from Day 1
  • Exploration of advanced Autolume features, including audio-reactive and real-time interactive art possibilities

Special Note:

We’re thrilled to welcome Arshia, a Digital Futures Master’s program graduate, back to OCAD U. This workshop offers a chance to see how Arshia has expanded his practice since his time here, sharing new insights and creative techniques with the next generation of artists.
