Course Title: 

 Interwoven Perspectives: Sustainability, Creativity, and Cultural Practice in Photography 

 

Course Description: 

This course, led by Ursula Handleigh, brings together OCAD U and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde students to explore the dynamic intersections of photography, sustainability, and sociocultural contexts. Participants will engage in studio demonstrations, group discussions, and collaborative projects that examine how photography can address pressing global issues and foster interdisciplinary approaches to creative expression. 

 Through museum and gallery visits, students will gain inspiration and critical insights into how art connects with the world around us. By the end of this course, participants will develop new perspectives on using photography as a tool for innovation, sustainability, and cultural dialogue.

 

Eligibility: 

OCAD U Students with 8.0 credits completed by end of winter term, from all programs are welcome to apply. Participants can expect to earn 0.5 credit GLBE-3001 studio credit which will fulfill an open elective. Graduate Studies students are ineligible to apply. 

 

Duration & Location:

This course will run at OCAD University for 6 weeks from July-August and will require in-person participation from Monday July 7th- Thursday July 17th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During these two weeks participants will work alongside our guests from Benilde in a mix of open studio time, guest lectures, and gallery visits around Toronto. Students will participate in a culminating exhibition and will be expected to participate in a final in person critique and submit a final reflection at the end of the course. Attendance during the two-week period listed above is mandatory, students enrolled in this course will not be able to register for any other July/August duration course.
