Nicholas Pye was born in Torquay, England. As a musician, Nicholas released and toured four albums in the mid 90’s. Moving from music to art, Nicholas completed an A.O.C.A.D. at OCAD U in 2002 and an MFA at Concordia University in Cinema Production in 2005. In 2011, Nicholas began working on his doctoral degree in Visual Art at York University. He has been teaching at OCAD U in the Photography program since 2005, as a sessional faculty from 2005-2011, as an Assistant Professor during two CLTA appointments from 2011-2017 and currently as a TS Lecturer. Nicholas is presently serving as a Senator on OCAD U's Senate governance committee. Nicholas's art practice integrates his interests in performance, cinema, sonic arts and large format still photography. Nicholas is represented by Birch Contemporary in Toronto and by Curators Office in Washington D.C.

Nicholas has exhibited his work at institutions including The Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; The Phillips Collection, Washington DC; Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne, Australia; The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto; The Power Plant, Toronto; The Glenbow Museum, Calgary; The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria; The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris. His work has been screened in numerous international film festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival, Canada; The Locarno International Film Festival, Switzerland; and Les Rencontres Internationales in Paris, Berlin, and Madrid. His work has also been exhibited internationally in art galleries throughout Toronto, Washington, London, New York, Berlin, and Madrid among others.
