Julia Rose Sutherland, a Mi'kmaq (Metepenagiag Nation) / settler artist and Assistant Professor at OCADU in Tkaronto (Toronto, Canada), is an interdisciplinary artist who practices blending photography, sculpture, textiles, craft and performance. Sutherland navigates the intersection of tradition and innovation by holding an MFA from the University at Buffalo (2019) and a BFA from the Alberta University of the Arts (2013). Solo exhibitions like "GINA'MATIMG" and "Netuisget 'NISSING'" unfold a narrative of time and learning, bridging online platforms such as The New Gallery. Participating in international showcases, such as the Bemis Center and 59 Rivoli Gallery in Paris, Sutherland explores identity and empathy. As a Canada Council for the Arts Creating Knowing Sharing award and AFA Indigenous Individual Project grant recipient.
