Faculty of Art
Ginette Legaré is a visual artist born in Québec City and based in Toronto. She is represented by Birch Contemporary (Toronto) and her works are also available at Art Mûr, in Montréal. Her artistic practice focuses on the instrumentalist and documentary possibilities of recovered objects through their potential to embody, subvert, or suggest meaning. Over the years, her mixed media constructs and installations have explored the social, cultural and perceptual contexts that inform such objects' material relations and transformations.
Legaré holds a BFA from Laval University, an MFA from York University and is a Professor Emerita at OCAD University. She is a former member of Cold City Gallery and Mercer Union’s Board of Directors and has served as advisor and juror for several arts organizations and public-art commissions. Her artworks have been shown throughout Canada and internationally, have been the subject of reviews and essays in numerous publications, and are included in public, corporate and private collections.
