Chris is a licensed professional engineer and graphic designer with extensive expertise in the visualization of complex information streams. He has been a member of the Faculty of Design since 2011 and the Faculty of Arts & Science since 2017, and currently teaches Visual Analytics & Data Visualization. In previous years, Chris has taught Wayfinding Design, Advanced Typography, Typography 2 (Structures), Typography 1, Communication: Surface, Object, Space, and Graphic Design 1.

Before attending design school, Chris worked in North Carolina as an aerospace engineer, designing and manufacturing navigation and control surface positioning systems for US Navy fighter and electronic warfare aircraft. His ongoing interest in graphic design and typography, combined with an intense discomfort with the ethical implications of his role as part of the North American military/industrial complex, eventually led him to the Ontario College of Art & Design, where he graduated from the graphic design program in 2008.

Chris currently holds the position of Head of User Experience (UX) at Caseware International, a global leader in the development of audit and assurance software for accounting firms, corporations and governments. As UX leader for Caseware and its global distributor network, Chris is responsible for all aspects of Caseware’s UX competency, including leading the Product Design, Design Operations, UX Research, Content Strategy, and Localization/Translation teams, as well as setting and overseeing the UX strategy across Caseware’s product portfolio and aligning UX with all business, product, and engineering requirements. His specific areas of focus include user research, information architecture, product design, usability testing, content management, technical writing, documentation, and adapting all platforms and products to multiple languages and regions. Chris also oversees the operationalization of design at Caseware, including design system development, work prioritization, workflow planning, and the scaling of design for rapid growth.

Prior to Caseware, Chris held the position of Senior Director, Information Design & Architecture, at multinational accounting, consulting, and professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. At PwC, he led a multi-disciplinary team of information designers, UX designers, digital strategists, and software developers using information design, data visualization, user experience, and structured typography best practices to analyze and interpret data, provide high-level insights, and develop clear, focused solutions to complex business problems. As PwC's Lead Information Architect, Chris was responsible for designing and organizing information functionality, hierarchy, and content into systems and structures which facilitate the efficient management of information. Chris also functioned as PwC's Accessibility Lead, ensuring compliance with AODA and WCAG regulations, guidelines, and best practices.

Outside of work, Chris's interests include boxing, weightlifting, yoga, theatre, postmodern literature, progressive politics, art history, single malt whisky, and industrial techno. He is a committed supporter of Manchester City FC, but will cheer for any club that beats Chelsea — even Arsenal.
