Ashley McKenzie Barnes, curator of Queens and Kings of Scarborough, will host an insightful conversation with internationally acclaimed artist Ebony G. Patterson about key decisions made in the process of artistic creation. Patterson will speak about her Nuit Blanche project, …three kings weep…, which examines violence against black bodies, stemming from a poem written in 1919, still revealing its relevance today.

House of Collage is an art exhibition featuring work by Leeay Aikawa. Opening on September 14 and continuing through September 26, the exhibition will include her oeuvre, ranging from photomontage collage using advertisements of Americana, more recent abstract collage works to some paintings that were developed from digitally composed collage, in which the artist worked across a decade.

This summer, Bonavista Biennale: FLOE is bringing works by 20 leading Canadian, Indigenous and international contemporary artists to the Bonavista Peninsula. This month-long event happens every two years, with exhibitions and site-specific installations at more than 20 indoor and outdoor venues. Visitors explore art, local cultural, history and the landscape on a spectacular 100-kilometre coastal loop. The 2019 artists are from Newfoundland, Labrador, other parts of Canada and the northeastern United States. The exhibition, artist talks, workshops and other events run from August 17th through September 15th.

Ken Vickerson shares his love for the humble cigar box guitar (CBG) in this exhibition of guitars produced over the past three years. The CBG, also known as the poor man’s guitar, is steeped in history and has provided entertainment and satisfaction for generations. Commonly made from empty cigar boxes and materials at hand, these instruments have recently experienced a resurgence in popular culture. They provide an ideal vehicle for both musical and visual artistic expression
