Yan studied sociology, psychology and Diaspora studies in her undergraduate studies, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto with a specialization in diversity and social justice. She has extensive experience working in newcomer settlement and community legal clinic sectors. Yan is passionate about supporting students in identifying their own strengths and helping them arrive at their own insights through their lived experiences. Yan’s clinical approaches include CBT, DBT, emotion-focused, and narrative therapy.
In her spare time, Yan is an organizer with a grassroots youth group in Scarborough that provides space for youth to share their concerns and take leadership to address those concerns through activism, youth-led workshops, community projects and forums. Yan is working toward being mindful in her own daily life, including putting down her phone when playing with her young daughter. Yan also likes taking walks, seeing friends, and reading to recharge.
