Feb 22 to 26: Tapestry Opera rehearses in Great Hall

Access to the Great Hall will be restricted during this time with higher volume of noise associated with the production.

Rehearsals for the production of R.U.R. A Torrent of Light, will take place at OCAD University from February 22 to 26. This original Canadian opera, featuring an exciting partnership between OCAD U and Tapestry Opera, will have its world premiere in OCAD U’s Great Hall from May 24 to June 5, 2022.

Please be aware of the upcoming pre-production rehearsals in the Great Hall next week. During the dates and times below, access to the Great Hall will be restricted:

  • Tuesday, February 22, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 23, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, February 24, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, February 25, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 26, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Students are welcome to quietly watch rehearsals from the balcony, however, no recordings or photos are to be taken at rehearsals or performances. Information about discounted student tickets will be available shortly. 

Designated eating and drinking areas

Please note that Room MCA 271 Café will be closed from Feb. 22 to 26, due to the rehearsals for the Tapestry Opera/OCAD U production.

During that time, the following designated eating and drinking areas will remain open during the regular hours of operation for the building, except where noted. These areas are located at:

  • 100 McCaul St. MCA544
  • 113 McCaul St. Room MCC 530
  • 205 Richmond St. W. Room RHA 415

Noise levels

Please be advised that the pre-production rehearsals will include music, singing and several orchestra practices, including the playing of four drum sets.

Orchestra rehearsals will take place during the following times:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 22, 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 23, 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 24, 3 to 6 p.m.
