Dr. Dori Tunstall, Dean of the Faculty of Design at OCAD University, will receive the first ever 'BADG of Honor' Education Award at the Black Artists + Designers Guild’s (BADG) inaugural awards ceremony and fundraiser in New York City on October 26, 2022.

The BADG of Honor event will honour individuals who advance Black creativity and culture. As one of five award honorees, Dr. Tunstall will receive the Education Award, an award that recognizes an educational advocate who has focused their efforts on sharing the achievements of the Black diaspora through historical preservation and research.

“I am so deeply honoured to be recognized by the Black Artists and Designers Guild,” said Dr. Tunstall. “To be recognized by your own community is the greatest honour because everything I do and everything I am, has been for the present and future Black artists and designer’s communities.”

A mission-driven, non-profit organization, BADG is committed to building a more equitable and inclusive creative culture by advancing a community of independent Black makers in creative industries.

Additional BADG of Honor award honorees include Walter Hood, Creative Director + Founder, Hood Design Studio (Founder Award); Franklin Sirmans, Director, Perez Art Museum, Miami (Legacy Award) and Mashonda Tifrere, Founder, ArtLeadher (Collective Circle Award). The BADG Maker Award honoree will be revealed next week.
