Wáhlu Noondaaptóone: I Talked From Far Away - Tuesday November 15 1-3PM

If you answered ‘Yes’ to one or more of the above questions, you are invited to join us for a #rockyourmocs edition of Wáhlu Noondaaptóone: I Talked From Far Away on Tuesday November 15th from 1-3PM in the Indigenous Student Centre. We will be joined by special guests Sadie Redwing and Erin Szikora.

Erin Szikora is an emerging curator, researcher, and beadwork artist of Cayuga, Scottish, and Hungarian ancestry. Born and raised in Guelph and currently based in Toronto, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Visual Studies from the University of Toronto and a Master of Arts in Contemporary Art, Design, and New Media Art Histories from OCAD University. In 2022, she was awarded the Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators with her exhibition Homecoming, currently on view at the Art Gallery of Guelph. Recent curatorial projects include For Catherine (2022) and Mamanaw Pekiskwewina | Mother Tongues: Dish With One Spoon Territory (2022) which she co-curated with Missy LeBlanc for The Robert McLaughlin Gallery.

Sadie Red Wing (sadieredwing.com) is a Lakota graphic designer and advocate from the Spirit Lake Nation of Fort Totten, North Dakota. Red Wing earned her BFA in New Media Arts and Interactive Design at the Institute of American Indian Arts. She received her Master of Graphic Design from North Carolina State University. Her research on cultural revitalization through design tools and strategies created a new demand for tribal competence in graphic design research. Red Wing urges Native American graphic designers to express visual sovereignty in their design work, as well as, encourages academia to include an indigenous perspective in design curriculum. Currently, Red Wing serves as an Assistant Professor at OCAD University (Toronto, ONT).
