Facilitated by: Ursula Handleigh (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Art)
Description:
This workshop will explore the possibilities of low-waste analogue photography. Using food scraps to create plant-based developers, we will explore the cyclical relationship between making and the environment. Through hand-making and hand-processing, sustainable photography strengthens our relationship with place, offering a space for tactile connection while bringing awareness to our shared environment. Utilizing safer and low-cost alternatives to traditional photographic processing also creates accessible practices for artists and photographers who might not have access to a studio or darkroom.
Workshop Learning Outcomes:
- Understand how sustainable/slow processes can enhance creative and experimental processes in photo (and beyond)
- Develop approaches to working with found materials in home life
