Spill the Tea is a series that aims to bridge the gap between emerging artists and established professionals. We bring together three guest speakers from a variety of different stages of their practice to hold a casual conversation to share advice and experiences. By having an opportunity for everyone (including you!) to share stories, questions, and lessons learned, this series hopes to inspire and empower each participant!

The session on Weds. July 12, will explore the topic of selling online as a small business owner and tips and tricks to go alongside it! Featuring Dina (@shopvelanidi), Karlovy (@karlovycross), and Rhael (@raysdrawlings). Whether you’re new or experienced with selling online, this session is a good opportunity to casually chat with these three guest speakers about their experience and share your own as well!

Feel free to introduce yourself in the FINELINE discord prior to the event and see who else might be coming: https://discord.gg/r8NQjnxbts

Guest Speaker Bios

Dina: Shop Velanidi is a polymer clay jewelry small business based in Toronto, that specializes in transforming beloved foods into statement earrings. It is lovingly ran by Dina, a 25 year old artist and maker (along with her bunny, Rocky), who has a love for anything handmade, playful, and silly! Shop Velanidi has become known for its produce bag earring collection, which uses recycled mesh to hold tiny clay fruits (which have gone viral multiple times on social media!). She has been running her business since late 2020, and has been her full time job for nearly 2 years.

Karlovy Cross: is an Indigenous Quechua-Hungarian illustrator born and raised in Queens, NYC. Her work is influenced by her sapphic experiences, love of nature, and the beauty found in feminine nudity. She has a deep personal attachment to faeries and her dream world would be to live in a foxglove. Until then, she's a freelance illustrator and shares her work on Patreon and runs her own online shop.

Rhael Mcgregor: is a comic artist, animator, and storyteller from Winnipeg, Manitoba. They are Métis, Queer/2-Spirt, Autistic, and excited about the power of storytelling. Their work centers around fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and autobio stories that make people smile!

Access Needs:

  • This event is open to OCAD U students, alumni, and individuals who have taken/or are currently taking courses with OCAD U's School of Continuing Studies.
  • This event will be recorded and shared internally with those who RVSP for accessibility purposes. The video will be captioned by our note taker for this workshop.
  • We will have a note taker documenting all the resources and advice given throughout the workshop session.
  • There will be a shared understanding that turning on your camera and/or mic in front of strangers is scary. There is no need to do more than you are comfortable with, and typing in the chat alone is more than valid. This option has been given to guest speakers as well.
  • We will have an optional shared time to speak out about any accessibility needs required to ensure safety and comfort within the space, noting that many accessibility needs flucuate day to day for many disabled people.
  • Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions for specific accessibility needs. Please email Vincy Lim at vincy.lim@ocadu.ca
