SGS Pride I Art as a Tool for Healing

Heather Beamish presenting her work.

Happy Pride Month! Graduate Studies will be hosting a series of events throughout the month of June to celebrate Pride and come together as a community.

The School of Graduate Studies at OCAD University is pleased to be hosting author, artist, and speaker Heather Beamish as she weaves together storytelling, spoken word poetry and reflection to explore the profound impact art can have on collective healing.

Art is a powerful tool for building community and nurturing healing by creating space for expression, fostering empathy, and nurturing social connections. It empowers individuals, celebrates diversity, and creates spaces for dialogue and understanding. By harnessing the transformative power of art, communities can come together, heal, and envision a brighter and more inclusive future.

Heather is a tea-drinking, female-loving, ex-evangelical pastor turned spoken word artist and facilitator. She is committed to, and energized by, resourcing communities with tools for rebuilding, reimagining, and reconciling differences through art and storytelling.

Heather spends her time creating art, sharing in various community spaces, and exploring Toronto with the beautiful people in her life. To follow her journey and view her work, connect through her website at heatherbeamish.com or Instagram @heatsbeam.
