About this event:

This is an in-person social gathering for all current OCADU students and alumni, or individuals who are taking courses with OCADU's School of Continuing Studies who have a small business or would like to start one. This gathering is an opportunity to connect (or re-connect!) and encourage each other on our progress as small businesses and share tips and tricks - alongside some trading fun!

Free take away meals will be provided at the end of the session! If you're able, bring your own tupperware, otherwise there will be a few plastic containers available.

Merch trading:

(Optional activity) Bring some of your own merchadise from your own shop (or soon to be shop), as much or as little as you'd like, and wrap it in a box, bag, etc so the gift is completely hidden! We'll take all of the trades and put them on a table under a tablecloth to hide all of the gifts. Everybody who participates will have a chance to put their hands (or ask a facilitator to put their hands) under the tablecloth and pull out a random mystery gift!

This way we can trade, own, and celebrate each other's merchandise and hard work in a meaningful, fun, and mysterious way!

Notes for trading:

  • Merchandise can be anything you feel comfortable giving away in exchange for a mystery gift of unknown value! This can be tote bags, pins, a bag of stickers, washi tape, posters, etc! Original art can be given if wanted but again please be mindful that in exchange you may recieve a bag of stickers in return.
  • You only need to bring one gift! If you'd like to bring more than one to share with more people, please note that you may only recieve one trading gift in return.
  • Our limitations for merchandise are any that can be deemed offensive in nature, as we will not tolerate any hatred within this space.
  • Please refrain from having uniquely textured wrapped gifts (ex. fuzzy). to accomodate our neurodivergent participants. A facilitator is also able to grab a random gift for you as well.
  • If anybody is uncomfortable with the gift recieved (ex. nudity and you cannot bring it home because of family or personal reasons), you are allowed to switch gifts with another participant or put it back.

Access Needs:

  • This event is open to OCAD U students, alumni, and individuals who have taken/or are currently taking courses with OCAD U's School of Continuing Studies.
  • OCADU does not require masks on campus. As the decision to wear a mask is now one of individual choice, we ask that all members of the community demonstrate respect for those who continue to wear masks for health and safety reasons. Masks will continue to be supplied in the CEAD. Learn more about OCADU's masking policy.
  • Food will be placed away from the main event for those who are sensitive towards smell and sight of food. They will also be placed on a regular table accessible to those with mobility devices.
  • More accessibility information is available on our Visit Our Centre webpage.
  • Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions for specific accessibility needs. Please email Vincy Lim at vincy.lim@ocadu.ca
