Building Beyond: An Instructional LEGO® Workshop w/ Ekow Nimako

Friday, May 03 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Join Ekow Nimako in the immersive experience of Building Beyond, a three-hour workshop that plunges into the depths of creativity, cultural introspection, and visionary storytelling. This unique session intertwines the artistry of LEGO® with Afrofuturism, engaging participants in the speculative reclamation of African legacies and dynasties.

Throughout the workshop, students will engage in hands-on exploration by selecting and assembling one of the specially designed LEGO® kits. These kits serve as canvases for participants to bring to life speculative visions of African legacies and dynasties. This concept involves creatively reinterpreting historical African cultures, traditions, and legacies impacted by historical events like colonization and slavery. Participants will envision how these legacies might have thrived and evolved if untouched by external disruptions.

Spaces for this workshop are limited, with priority consideration given to self-identifying Black and African OCAD U students and alumni.

To register, please email Susan Jama at susanjama@ocadu.ca

The workshop is co-presented with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Sustainability Initiatives (ODESI).
